For Mercedes-Benz owners, good audio matters on the daily commute. Standard paper-cone speakers can have limited power handling and dynamic range, with complex arrangements becoming less distinct. Sensonum has developed dedicated solutions for the W214 E-Class, W254 GLC and W206 C-Class, combining hardware and processing tailored to each cabin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The W214 E-Class is the most extensive solution: 15 speakers and four 4D seat-mounted haptic transducers, for 19 units in total. It includes four silk-dome tweeters, four black woven-fiberglass midrange drivers, two sandwich composite carbon-fiber footwell woofers, two overhead drivers, one center speaker and two surround speakers. Four in-seat-mounted haptic transducers add tactile bass, following a similar 4D principle to Mercedes-Maybach configurations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The W206 C-Class and W254 GLC omit two rear-door tweeters, giving 13 speakers and four transducers for 17 units. Both use a three-way layout driven by the same amplifier with a nominal maximum power of 1920 W, with center and surround coverage suited to their respective cabins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 16-channel all-digital amplifier has a die-cast aluminum enclosure and stated 1920 W power. An ADI SigmaDSP handles control and source processing, while an ADI SHARC DSP runs the 3D surround algorithm. The platform has passed Toyota-standard 1000-hour EMC immunity testing, a demanding reliability measure highlighted by the brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Temperature tolerance is another design consideration. Sensonum applies OEM-market standards for operation in severe cold and heat. This is intended to reduce the amplifier protection trips and stiffened speaker behavior that can occur with less demanding aftermarket designs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rather than using one fixed tuning, Sensonum provides three selectable modes for different music and preferences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reference mode aims for uncolored studio-style reproduction. It suits classical music, instrumentals and jazz when faithful tonal presentation is the priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
HiFi mode adds coordinated gain and shaping across the highs, mids and lows to the Reference foundation. It offers a balanced, comfortable setting for everyday listening across genres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SURREAL SURROUND 3D uses an ADI SHARC-based algorithm from the same broad technology approach used by brands such as Bowers & Wilkins and B&O. It creates envelopment and height in the cabin, with images extending above and to the sides. The modes change sound-field structure, producing a perceptible difference beyond ordinary tone adjustment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dedicated connectors enable installation without cutting wires, flashing vehicle software or reading the CAN bus. The factory head unit supplies audio to the DSP amplifier, which drives the speakers without exchanging control data with the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Sensonum system operates independently of the vehicle control network, allowing MBUX OTA updates to proceed while the audio system continues operating. Physical separation avoids the need for the audio equipment to participate in control-protocol updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trim is removed with dedicated tools and restored with clips and panels intact, without drilling, cutting or permanent modification marks. Automatic acoustic calibration detects the cabin environment and speaker positions after installation. This standardized process reduces dependence on individual installers' listening judgments and reflects the platform's OEM engineering approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sensonum describes itself as the only aftermarket audio brand with a dedicated tuning app, allowing real-time control without returning to a dealer or relying on technician adjustments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Six parameters are available: depth focus adjusts vocal distance; front and rear focus adjust stage width; mix level controls surround strength; bass enhancement adjusts low-frequency reverberation; and soundfield diffusion controls how focused or spread the vocal image is. Each ranges from \u221210 to +10 and takes effect when the control is released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Remote OTA updates allow sound algorithms to evolve. The amplifier also includes ANC and speed compensation, adjusting level as speed rises to help maintain clear music at highway speeds. The system can therefore continue developing after installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sensonum is a British brand whose parent, Potnia, was established in London in 1999. Its product range has received a British royal honorary title.
